I don’t have experience with other convertible car seats, since this is our first. We bought it when it seemed our son was beginning to get too big for our Graco infant seat (which was given to us by friends).br /br /Overall, I am very pleased with this seat after use for several months.br /br /The pros:br /br /* It is very easy to install securely in the rear-facing position in our two vehicles. We move it back and forth regularly between our 99 Honda CRV and an Isuzu NPR box truck cab. It fits well in the middle bench position in both. Since our son already had good head control when we bought this seat, we’ve never ‘lifted’ the front of the seat with a pool noodle or towel. It’s not perfectly level with the guide line on the side of the seat, but my understanding is that is ok for older babies. I think it makes it more comfortable for our son to no longer be reclined at 45° too (he is still reclined some however, even without lifting, because our vehicle seats are very flat).
br /br /* The gray color (casino) matches our vehicles’ interiors well, is inoffensive and hides little stains.br /br /* Seems pretty comfortable for our now 10.5 month old son.br /br /* Good price.br /br /* Great safety ratings.br /br /The cons (why I gave it 4 stars rather than 5):br /br /* The biggest downside so far is that I have found it VERY difficult to tighten the straps with my son rear-facing and the straps in the lowest shoulder setting. There seems to just be too many sharp angles at this setting for it to slide smoothly (perhaps just a result of a car seat trying to work for such a big age and size range). Some of our friends with the same seat said they just leave it at the same setting all the time, but I want to tighten each time because my son often has on different layers of clothing and I want to make sure he’s always well secured.br /br /I struggled with tightening for weeks before figuring out that I can pull on the straps from BEHIND the seat (the bit facing the front of the car) until it’s taut against my son. Then, still holding it taut with one hand, I pull on the tightening strap on the front of the seat with my other hand. It slides MUCH easier, and I can finally get him adjusted well. There’s still some awkwardness with the way the straps go under his butt to balance each other out, but I can usually handle it with fiddling as I go. This is hard to explain, but in conclusion: it’s not nearly as easy as the infant seat, but it works. And, I feel comfortable that my son will NEVER be able to loosen the straps himself while I’m in the front driving.br /br /* The other con is that the seat cover is quite plush and must be hand-washed. On the other hand, the cover comes on and off easily, so this downside might be a neutral issue really (I understand other seat covers are difficult to remove and put back on).br /br /Overall, I’d recommend this product to a friend! But I think it’s always important to make sure a car seat fits in YOUR vehicle well. We tried this one out in a store before buying, and that gave us confidence that it was the right seat for us.
