Stuhrling Original Men’s 257.ST.335654 Metro Collection Axis Automatic Skeleton Watch

In our quest to create truly unique timepieces for one particular series or collection, or for Stuhrling as a whole, we can sometimes surprise ourselves. Welcome Stuhrling Original’s Axis. As a member of the Metro Series, this timepiece embodies the urban lifestyle of city life, both in its appearance and in its sturdy construction. Right on the first glance you can tell it’s a Metro Series member by the case design. Tank-shaped and larger in width than in height, the Axis stands out from all its colleagues, but it shares their larger than life attitude. This is a watch to be worn by the strong and confident, and by those aiming for the top with every intention of getting there with style. The Axis features a very unique skeletonized dial. Its sunray pattern leaves little behind, but what’s left form baton indices that function as hour markers. This timepiece has a classic three hand mechanical automatic movement set inside a curved case that was blanked from solid bars of 316L surgical grade stainless steel. To compensate for the curvature of the case, the Krysterna crystals, a material used exclusively by Stuhrling Original that is more shatter resistant than sapphire, have also been curved. For additional comfort, we fitted the Axis with a tapered, high grade silicon rubber strap.

Here is the latest addition to the series: the Emperor’s Grandeur. True to its name, the Grandeur makes an exceptionally grand impression; this watch doesn’t just feature one or two details that make it stand out. The entire piece as a whole is bold, imposing, beautiful, and has a commanding presence that can’t be found anywhere else. A spectacular achievement of craftsmanship, the Grandeur bears a few similarities to its predecessor, the Emperor, but this timepiece is larger by 8mm, bringing the case size to 50mm! Whereas the Emperor features an open heart complication that displays the balance wheel, the Grandeur is completely skeletal, and on top of that, it is a pure mechanical watch, the way watches were made over two hundred years ago! The movement, ST-91011 caliber, was tested and certified by our highly trained and certified watch makers has 22-jewels and powers the balance wheel at 21,600 vibrations per hour. On top of that, the Emperor’s Grandeur has an amazing 60 hour power reserve! That’s five days on a pure mechanical movement! The massive case was blanked from solid bars of 316L surgical grade stainless steel, and along with our very own Krysterna crystals, this handsome timepiece is rugged and well protected in form and stature. I loved this watch the moment I saw it on Amazon, and decided to take a chance on it despite the fact that internet photos are sometimes too good to be true. The Winchester is a quality watch. It looks and feels sturdy, and it does not deviate in any weird ways (i.e. shoddy craftsmanship, huge face, bad strap) from its photographic representation on Amazon. I like that you can actually see the coiled spring tense inside as you wind the crown manually. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. The watch also comes with a two year warranty; I will update this review if I ever have problems to share.

I received this watch promptly and i can say this – it looks just as beautiful as the image – it really is a piece of art and will definitely get you comments on its look. My only 2 comments are this – amazon lists this as having a calendar date feature. This watch doesnt have a perpetual calendar, or any calendar for that matter. Thats amazons mistake though, not Stuhrling. The other comment I have for this is that while it is fully automatic, the “sweeping second hand” isnt quite as sweeping as some other watches. You can see the mechanical clicks if you look at it, but still, its a great watch for the price, and in this price range I dont think i’ve seen a watch quite as nice looking as this one, I am very happy with it and would recommend it if you can look past the 2 things i noted above!

Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Perrelet invented the self-winding mechanism in 1770. It worked on the same principle as a modern pedometer, and was designed to wind as the owner walked.

This is a beautiful watch of high style and craftsmanship. I’ve only had it a week and get tons of complements on it, it’s a real eye catcher. The blue hands are a nice touch, where silver or white, or even black would get lost in the detail of the watch, the blue really stands out without being gaudy. The automatic winding mechanism and all the machinework is beautifully exposed through both the crystal and the clear watch back.br /br /There are 2 things that keep this from being a 5-star review. 1) the band isn’t particularly comfortable. It’s overly stiff and the loop that holds the loose end of the band rubs on my wrist at times. 2) the crystal has cristp black lettering that says “Stuhrling Original” but it’s not perfectly centered on the 12, it looks like the crystal was put on just slightly rotated from center. It’s barely noticeable, in fact I didn’t spot it until I saw another person write the same thing in their review, but I can clearly see it now.

I couldn’t be happier with this watch! The detailing and craftsmanship are stunning, and invite comments and admiration whenever someone happens to see it. I’ve worn the watch off and on for about a week now, and it has kept perfect time. The manufacturer states that it has a 36 hour power reserve when fully wound, but I have been able to leave it in it’s case for two days without it running completely down. As mentioned in previous posts, the leather band was a little stiff when I first took it out of the box, but it quickly softened with wear.br /br /Overall, I would definitely recommend this timepiece to anyone who would like a stylish and reliable watch.
