His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a “no light, no pay” clause–a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked–and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark. p In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company’s current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won’t deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.p

Coleman WeatherMaster Screened 4 Tent CustomerReview

GET A FEW CANS OF CAMP DRY. This tent leaked fairly bad the first time we used it at Woolly Hollow state park in Arkansas. I think the rain fly diverts water directly onto the back side windows and on the seam where the door hinges and ours leaked pretty bad at the point where the mesh meets the bottom part of the window. Those nights it rained a good bit and we “fixed” the leak by detaching the rain fly on the back poles and tying it to the guy lines then to a tree, so the water would run off the very back of the tent more, instead of dripping right at key seams, this seemed to fix the problem. We have since put 3 coatings of camp dry and used a couple of tubes of coleman seam sealer and this should be a great tent from now own. (guaranteed not to leak……after 3 coatings of camp dry) should be there slogan.br /br /On a positive note, I haven’t had a tent from Coleman that hasn’t leaked yet, but learn from me, always seal them with camp dry or similar product and seam sealer BEFORE you need to, and you will have a great experience and have a tent that will last for years to come.

Coleman Elite WeatherMaster 6 Tent CustomerReview

Note: This is a photocopy of the same review I gave on another site, going to try and post more of the pictures that I wasn’t able to on that site here.br /This has to be the best tent that I have had the opportunity to own. I own or have access to Coleman, Wenzel and various other brand tents but only Coleman tents seem to last the best for this class. Heck my last Coleman is now 25-30 years old and it is still usable, though it is now on the small side as that was the tent I grew up in. As for class I mean Family/Car camping tents. br /Simple setup and take down. Took only half an hour to put up by myself, only needed a little help with the rainfly. As a side note though I do have to say that users may need to ignore the instructions to raise the poles up to the high or third hole after raising the tent up. At first setup mine was tight enough as it was. Rainfly coverage was excellent, but if there is a high wind and rain, the middle section may have some rain coming in from the screen on the top, the one that is a skylight without the rainfly on. No floor in the screened in area, but thats no big for me. Screens themselves are not no-see-um mesh so keep that in mind. A common comment on last years model was that the tent acted like a wind sock due the the fact the back section had no screen. This years model does have a screen window on the high side of the rear section. Just like the other windows this one can also be zipped shut. Self rolling windows are an interesting idea, though they took me down memory lane and the snap bracelets of the early nineties, mostly cause they function exactly the same way. The biggest difference is that these are not covered in fabric as the bracelets were, so when putting these in only an adult should do it. The supposed injuries due to the bracelets can also occur here but possibly more easily. If you can handle a 1″ wide metal tape measure without a problem though I reckon you should be fine. Sleeping accommodations are a little relative, for me I feel this tent can sleep two or three comfortably, with cots or air-beds, a cooler and a chuck-box. If you just want to sleep in it the stated sleeping area is about right, but be prepared for waking everyone up if you have to get up in the middle of the night. br /Now the most important part, for me at least, Waterproofness. Can’t say how it will handle in a real rainstorm but I will tell you this, it held up good to the settings on my garden hose, with a friend standing inside. To give you an idea what settings I used, one was a fan setting (this puts out an arch that about 90 degrees on a flat plain, I like it cause it creates fairly realistic water droplets at a fairly low pressure). The other was a needle setting (this does just what is says creates a needle of water about the diameter of a wide grip pen, its high pressure). The fan one I used on the sides and the roof at a distance of about 6 feet from the tent for about 2 minutes on each section. Had no leaking issues other that the issue mentioned above were water came in through the middle section on top. Rain-fly worked great as well. The latter I used on the seams. For about thirty seconds to a minute I sprayed each seam to see if any leaks showed up, I thought something had to show up with this setting. To my amazement nothing did. So other than some rain coming in over the middle section there really wasn’t an issue. br /All in all this is a great all around tent, and in my opinion stays true to the Coleman name. Only time will tell if it holds up to my old Coleman. br /br /br /Edit as of July 28th 2009: After taking this tent out camping in the Black Hills of South Dakota I have a few things to add to the review. First I was out there for five nights and on each of those nights it rained. For the sake of honesty one leak did pop up and that was in the rear room at the base of the two large windows where the spring ends. Outside of that it performed flawlessly. We even had a few strong wind gusts that would have toppled my old dome tent. One of these rainstorms was strong enough that a mountain not 200-300 yards away could not be seen from the screen room. Also, all this was accomplished using only the original Coleman waterproofing. I haven’t had to put any on myself yet. Another note dealing with the poles after all that rain I did find some rust on the poles as I was storing them after striking camp. However, for me I consider this normal wear and tear.

Coleman WeatherMaster Screened 6 Tent CustomerReview

I’ve only had this tent about a month, and we used it for our labor day weekend camping trip. we didn’t practice putting it up before hand, which i was regretting as we didn’t get to our site until dusk and was nervouse about setting up a brand new tent that was much more tent than either of us had used before. to our suprise, it went up very quickly and easily. the instructions were very easy to follow and all the parts were easily identifiable and intuitive.br /br /once it was up, we fell in love just during the settling in phase; i thought the hinged door would be a cool addition, but after 3 days, i don’t think i would ever go without it again. it was so easy to quickly slip in and out of the tent without zipping (except for at night, of course). we had recently invested in sleeping cots too and everything fit perfectly (note 2 people with 2 cots and lots of “stuff” was VERY comfortable; to be a 6 person tent is more than i’d want to live with, as it would seem to be only sleeping area). also, we were both thrilled with the hight of the tent and no longer needed to duck around.br /br /the screened in area was nice to have, we stored some things in there to keep out of the way, and it would be great for rainy/buggy times (fortunately we lucked out and didn’t have either).br /br /All in all, i am extremely pleased with my purchase of this tent. definately worth the wait as it was unavailable when we first started researching it.

Coleman WeatherMaster 10 Tent CustomerReview

After owning a previous tent for over ten years, it was time for a new one. I have skimped on price before but ultimately wound back up with the Coleman line. They just sell great reliable product. I did a lot of research and decided to go with the Coleman WeatherMaster 10 tent. I have two young daughters and my wife, this tent is the perfect size for a long weekend. br / I set it up by myself in about 20-25 minutes. I recommend getting some help and the time will be cut in half. It was very easy to set up, although the directions sewn inside the bag are a little rough to read. I suggest printing out a copy from Coleman’s website and follow them. Definitely set the tent up before you head out to familiarize yourself with it. You will see it is very easy. br / It is a very large and roomy tent. It only has two spacious rooms, but do you really need more than that?? I have seen other reviews where people had mentioned it looked cheaply constructed. I disagree! The seams are very strong as well as the floor. The tent itself feels like a parachute type material. It feels very resilient to me. . . The one complaint I have which in all reality I guess you can’t get away from, is that getting it back into the bag was a chore; I don’t think I have ever has a tent go back into its case very easily. I don’t understand why they don’t make “stuff” tents yet in this day and age. It would be nice to just stuff that sucker right into a bag instead of rolling it up and dealing with the frustration. Anyway, just eye up the bag first and make tight rolls and it will go back in OK. I highly recommend this tent and know you will enjoy it as well.br /

This is obviously an earlier version that is now discontinued… same size, same basic color scheme, but NOT quite the same features as those described on the Coleman site!br /br /However, it is a very nice tent! :) The main indication that it’s not the same tent is the color of rain rain fly, which Amazon is not showing a pic of here (right now)… so this seems borderline marketing deception.br /br /Differences from the Elite WeatherMaster(tm) 6 Screened Tent are: does not have the “Self rolling windows” featured in the video, does not have the rods to make the rain fly arch above the door and … as previously noted … the screen porch does not have a floor (not sure if the new version has that either tho! :D ) Also, a check on Coleman.com indicates that some of the replacement parts are no longer available.. don’t know if parts for the newer version would work with it.br /br /I cannot comment on usage, as I just got mine this week and set it up in the yard today.br /br /However, for the price (which I see just dropped from what I paid last week … bummer :( ) it’s a great deal. Just realize that it’s not quite what you might expect if you looked at the Coleman video on Elite tents.br /

Coleman WeatherMaster 8 Tent CustomerReview

We bought this tent based on reviews and were not disappointed. We used it for our family of 4, our dog, and a lot of extra gear that we didn’t even need. There is a lot of extra room in this tent, and I’d say it can sleep 6 very comfortably, and 8 if you don’t have any gear in the tent with you. There is the potential for 2 “rooms” in the tent via a partition that clips in place in the middle of the tent, with a zipper down the center. We didn’t use the partition, as our children are young and wouldn’t stay on their side anyway. There is a neat little zipper in the rear of the tent for an electrical cord access, which we did use from our campsite. br /br /There was plenty of headroom, and I could easily stand up in the tent and walk from end to end without ducking, and I’m 5′ 10″. With all the windows open, there is a LOT of airflow, and ventilation was not a problem during the day when it was hot. The only thing we experienced that we didn’t expect was that night the temp dropped into the 30’s, and with only 4 people in the tent and so many cubic feet of airspace, it got pretty chilly in there, even with all the windows up. (Keep in mind that we didn’t pack for cold weather.) br /br /Setup was a snap, and directions are printed on a sheet sewn into the inside of the bag so you won’t lose it. I set up the tent to inspect it after I received it, and it took about 30 minutes with me really taking my time. Second attempt on the campsite, the directions were unnecessary as the setup was simple, and it took only 15 minutes with help only for draping the rainfly over the large tent. br /br /In short, I would recommend this family tent without reservation, and look forward to having many camping trips with family and friends in it.
