Coleman Montana 4 Tent CustomerReview

We needed a new tent that would hold a full/queen air mattress as well as a pack-n-play. I bought this tent because of its square walls so it would fit the height of the pack-n-play, as opposed to the standard dome tents. It worked out really well – easy to put together, just enough room for the mattress, pack-n-play and bags of clothes, toys, etc. It rained one night and we didn’t have any problems with leaks, though to be honest it was a very light rain. The only thing I’m worried about is the tightness of the front when you zip up the door — it seems like the fabric is stretched so much the seams may tear after some use. We’ll just have to keep an eye on it.

Coleman Evanston 6 Tent CustomerReview

I received the tent this week and knew I had to set it up before I took it camping. It barely fit on our deck, this thing is huge! I really like the open feeling it gives, very tall, ample room, and appears sturdy. Setup was done in the typical style of a dome tent. It had two fiber poles(much better than the old wood ones) that crossed each other, then a third hoop to lift up the front a little. This was very straight forward. I set it up by myself and it only took me about fifteen minutes, first time. I haven’t tried the rain-fly yet.br /Again, I really like the size, being able to stand in a tent is really nice.br /br /What I didn’t like was how the material felt a little thin. I actually tore a little 1/8th inch hole in the pole guide while barely pushing. This is not your grandpa’s canvas tent! I just kept easing the pole through and working the fabric. I will also be getting a tarp for under the tent, as that is not as substantial as I would like it to be.br /br /Other than that, I really like it. I did think it was the tent with the hinged door, but that was my mistake. Besides, I’m not so lazy that I can’t unzip a door…maybe.br /br /I am really looking forward to using this over the summer.

Coleman started selling gasoline-powered lanterns in 1900. Inventor of the hugely popular fold-up camp stove, Coleman developed a plastic liner for his galvanized steel coolers in 1957–the birth of the modern cooler–and the company has been improving their utility and design ever since. The array of products that bear the Coleman name now includes just about everything you might need to work or play outdoors, from tents and sleeping bags to boats, backpacks, and furniture.pstrongfont color=CC6600BIGAmazon.com Tent Guide/BIG/font/strongbrstrongfont color=CC6600Selecting a Tent/font/strongbr Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:pstrongfont color=CC6600Expect the Worst/font/strongbr In general, it’s wise to choose a tent that’s designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you’ll face. For instance, if you’re a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick–especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you’re a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you’ll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.pstrongfont color=CC6600Three- and Four-Season Tents/font/strongbr For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.p For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.pstrongfont color=CC6600Domes, Tunnels and Sacks/font/strongbr Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.pstrongfont color=CC6600Size Matters/font/strongbr Ask yourself how many people you’d like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you’re a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don’t need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.p Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it’s easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It’s also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you’re considering.p

Coleman Hooligan 2 Backpacking Tent CustomerReview

Used it three times camping on Boston Harbor Islands (fun!). this tent sets up really easily, just one pole to thread through a sleeve. Doing it myself it took 15 minutes the first time, just five minutes the most recent time. Sets up in the dark easily. The tent is basically a ’screen tent’ with a waterproof floor. You can use it as a screen tent, to kcep bugs off you. If you add the fly, it becomes a robust standard tent which should protect you from driving rain. br /I am 6 foot 8 incheds tall (203cm)and weigh 310lbs, I fit in this very comfortably.br /This would not be a good choice for winter camping, because the fly and the inner screen tent have a lot of ventalation, perfect for summer/fall but too cold for winter use.br /Th is tent is a little too heavy for distance backpacking. It is not a “heavy” tent but there are lighter tents (much more expensive too)which sould suit you better for a long hike of several days. The tent is also slightly big when in the robust handy case it comes with. It is about 25 inches long, eight by eight inches in circumferance. Perfect for a Harley or car camping.br /The zippers and sewing seem good quality. br /If I lost this tent, I would buy another one. I camp a lot, and have cimbed every 4,000ft peak in New England except Katadhain. I know my tents, this is a good one and a great value.

Coleman Hooligan 3 Tent CustomerReview

We’ve used this tent (2 of us) for car camping half a dozen times and it’s OK for 2 people, but it would definitely be crowded for 3.br /br /This tent is quite easy and fast to set up and tear down; once I did it once I never needed to look at the instructions again (and in a nice touch, the instructions are printed on fabric which is sown inside the carrying case – so you won’t lose them or wreck them).br /br /We’ve used it in the rain once and stayed nice and dry.br /br /The interior has enough room for a queen air mattress with a little space to spare (maybe 8″ on both sides and at the foot). Not much in the way of conveniences inside – there’s a smallish pocket hanging on each side, and that’s it. It would have been nice if there was a loop in the top to hang a lantern, but there isn’t.br /br /The “vestibule” is nice but not perfect. On the plus side, it increases privacy; even when the outer door is fully open, you can’t see the entire interior of the tent from outside. It’s also of course a good place to keep your stuff that won’t fit inside the tent. But on the down side it makes getting in and out of the tent more awkward, and stuff in the vestibule is not protected from critters or water flowing along the ground. It’s also worth noting that the way the tent is designed, you can’t put on the fly without also setting up the vestibule – otherwise you end up with the front of the fly just kind of flopped down in front of the tent entrance.br /br /Overall the construction, design, and materials used in this tent seem good, with three exceptions:br /1) The stakes are thin and too easily bent.br /2) There’s a spot where the zipper for the inner door is really hard to pull because of excess tension; it’s no fun to have to fight with a sticky zipper when you’re being pursued by bloodthirsty mosquitoes, and my guess is this is the first thing that will wear out.br /3) You’ll never get the tent rolled up as small as it was when new, but the carrying case was clearly designed to handle that size and nothing more. Squeezing everything back in is a chore but doable.

Coleman Hooligan 4 Tent CustomerReview

I bought this tent for my trip to Yellowstone. I loved how I could have it set up in under 10 minutes and that it only took one person. This allowed my friend to get the food cooked faster upon our late arrival to the campsite. It’s a good quality tent as far as the material, the zippers work well and don’t snag. I love the vestibule and how you can keep shoes and other gear out of the tent, yet protected from the elements. The all mesh tent body has great pros and not so good cons. br /Pros: The first time I used it was Father’s Day weekend. My 5 yr. old nephew and I stayed in it without the rainfly on as it was 70+ degrees overnight (yes even in northern Wisconsin we have great summers). The mesh was a great feature as it allowed us to watch the stars and millions of fireflies which had my chatter nephew speechless. Great experience! ; D You have the feeling of sleeping right out under the stars without the annoying bugs . The size of the tent is great not too big that the tent is annoying to pack or find enough room to setup, yet not too small so that 3 people and a good bit of gear can still fit in it. 4 people really do fit comfortably. The base of the tent is made of good quality/ durable material. It’s a little noisy but I’d take noise over a leaky floor any day. br /Cons: The support sleeves that the poles slide into are made of the same material as the tent body. It’d be better to make these with a more rugged/ durable material as the metal female ends of the poles have rubbed holes through the material in the 4 months i’ve owned the tent. Also the sleeves made a good space for earwigs to crawl into as earwigs are a common nuisance in northern wisconsin. It’d be better and easier if there were plastic tabs to place over the poles like other tents I’ve seen in place of the sleeves. Also like another customer mentioned there aren’t any loops or hooks to hang a lantern/ flashlight or fan from the top of the tent. Also with the tent body almost entirely mesh, it allows too much air flow on cold night even with the rain fly on. Our first night in Yellowstone the temperature dropped down to 38 degrees and this was in the middle of August. It made for a really cold night. It would have been nice to be able to zip something over the door to protect from the big space of the vestibule where cold air was gathering. The other sides of the tents were close enough that it didn’t allow much air flow in, but something over the door would definitely be a nice addition. The stakes are light which make it great for packing, but they also bend pretty easily, I think about 5 of them are bent out of whack already.br /br /A few minor adjustments and this tent good tent would be amazing! I know I had a lot of cons, but I really do love this tent. I’ve just been bringing an extra blanket for insulation and wear my snowboarding baselayers under my sweats at night. Like I said I’ve only had the tent for 4 mos. but I’ve used it at least 12 times. I think that speaks for itself. A great tent, easily packed, easily assembled and offers great versatility for weather and a great price with fast shipping from Amazon!

Interesting design — definately an economically designed tent — minimum labor and materials in contruction. Follow the instructions, easy setup. Does not seal up tight for severe weather though it performed well during an all night rain and wind storm in the Sierra’s — I was actually surprised it performed so well.br /br /Good, inexpensive car camping tent for a family of four with gear.

I bought this tent a few weeks ago with the intention of going camping. I generally camp with a backpacking tent, so this tent made good sense to me as a purchase for a two person casual camping tent. br /br /The tent is well constructed, the materials, especially the bottom seem to be stable, and it’s well put together. The tent is well ventilated, it was about 80 degrees out the night we went camping and the tent stayed pretty cool with all of the vents opened and without the rain fly. The tent was really easy to put up and took me about 2 minutes to assemble, the poless snap on to the tent and go into each corner. br /br /br /The tent has plenty of room for two people and two frame-packs or medium sized duffel bags. We were able to sleep comfortably in it without ending up laying in our gear. The built-in pockets in the tent were also a huge plus (although most tents have these), great for holding flash lights, glasses, whatever.

Coleman Evanston 8 Tent CustomerReview

Whenever I read a review this good, I always think that some body is working for the company so first let me assure you that I don’t work for Coleman or Amazon. I ordered our new tent on Memorial Day and it arrived on the 3rd. GREAT SHIPPING! My son in law came to get our granddaughter at 5 and we set it up. It took us 40 minutes because the directions aren’t crystal clear, but using the picture and my minimal knowledge of tents it went together. Next time will probably be 15 minutes. Anyway….the weather called for 0% chance of rain so I figured it could go up and be sealed, but within 30 minutes of going up we had the most “Gawd awful” storm I’ve seen in quite some time. The winds were bending over the maples in our yard so I looked out the kitchen window and the tent was flying. All the tent stakes with the exception of 3 rainfly stakes had come out of the ground and the tent looked like a tethered balloon hovering about 18″ off the ground and was being whipped around so hard I actually thought of the wizard of oz. The sides were bending in and the rainfly was flapping and I thought “That’s the fastest I’ve ever lost 0,and I’m going to have to go back to looking for a tent again.” ( I spent several months reviewing and looking at tents that would hold all 6 of us and keep all the whiners happy over our two week camping trip through the mid west.) But anyway, the rain and hail subsided after an hour and a half, so I went out into the yard expecting a foot of water in the tent and rips throughout. NOT A DROP OF WATER! The tent was askew, the stakes out of the ground, a couple fiberglass tent poles were undone and flattened and the tarp underneath had blown out, but NO water. I’m amazed. I don’t know how well it’s going to work over a two week period but I’m sold. It hasn’t been sealed yet, but I did get better tent stakes and will carry a plastic sheet or something to cover the extensive mesh top and keep heat in at night because it gets coooold in the desert at night, but I’ve made up my mind that I really love this tent! Who would have thought something made in China could make me happy?? We’re ready to hit the road at the end of the month and I don’t have to research tents anymore! The 12×12 is hard to find, but the smaller versions are everywhere. Buy it and love it!

From the built-in lighting system to the hinged door and Auto-Roll window design to Coleman’s WeatherTec system guaranteed to keep out wind and rain, the Coleman Elite Sundome 6 Tent is packed with features for comfort and convenience at the campsite. The tent sleeps 6 people comfortably in 2 rooms, with a footprint of 12′x10′ and a center height of 6′. The hinged door swings open and closed; it includes a rigid pole frame support structure that is easy to install and take down. An overlapping door flap helps keep out insects when closed. The integrated lighting system, featuring a replaceable 15-watt spiral fluorescent tube powered by an 8 D-cell battery pack, provides a bright, useful light — enough to read by at night. It can be turned on and off with a push-button remote control from up to 50 feet away, or by using the backlit switches on the light fixture and the battery pack. Two settings provide brightness options, with more than 16 hours of run time on Low and 12-14 hours on High. Coleman’s Comfort System allows control of airflow with vented Cool-Air Port/Cooler Port, privacy vent window, interior gear pocket and electrical access port. Color-coded 11mm fiberglass poles, continuous pole sleeves plus InstaClip attachments and an exclusive pin-and-ring design assure quick and easy setup even for beginners. Coleman’s new Auto-Roll Window lets you instantly roll windows up, partially up to your liking, or all the way down, to suit your privacy or ventilation preference. “Negative-angle” windows allow the window to be partially or fully open during a mild rain: a primary structural pole creates an overhang to protect the window and provide ventilation and viewing during an afternoon shower or gentle nighttime rain.

Coleman Elite Sundome 6 Tent CustomerReview

I am well pleased with the quality of the tent and the ease to assemble. As with all the tent manufacturer’s ratings, this tent might be rated to sleep more than two people, but if you plan to store any gear or use airbeds, two people is the magic number of occupants that can comfortably use the tent.br /The assembly is a piece of cake. We’re in our 50’s and hadn’t assembled one of the newer style tents before purchasing this one. It takes about 10 minutes to assemble, once you’ve done it and see how things go.br /The canvas carry bag is nice, but there isn’t any “extra” room in it. You’ll have a little work folding things tight enough to get back in the bag, but it all does fit nicely once you figure out the best method. Pay attention to how everything is stored and folded when you first unpack the tent.br /Our first time out, we experienced severe storms with heavy rain and winds. Everything held perfectly water-tight. No leaks; no problems. The tent dried quickly in the sun in about 15 minutes. The dimensions of the storage bag allow us to easily carry this tent in our Bushtec motorcycle trailer, along with all the other necessary gear. We are well pleased.
