Coleman started selling gasoline-powered lanterns in 1900. Inventor of the hugely popular fold-up camp stove, Coleman developed a plastic liner for his galvanized steel coolers in 1957–the birth of the modern cooler–and the company has been improving their utility and design ever since. The array of products that bear the Coleman name now includes just about everything you might need to work or play outdoors, from tents and sleeping bags to boats, backpacks, and furniture.pstrongfont color=CC6600BIGAmazon.com Tent Guide/BIG/font/strongbrstrongfont color=CC6600Selecting a Tent/font/strongbr Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:pstrongfont color=CC6600Expect the Worst/font/strongbr In general, it’s wise to choose a tent that’s designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you’ll face. For instance, if you’re a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick–especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you’re a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you’ll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.pstrongfont color=CC6600Three- and Four-Season Tents/font/strongbr For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.p For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.pstrongfont color=CC6600Domes and Tunnels/font/strongbr Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.pstrongfont color=CC6600Size Matters/font/strongbr Ask yourself how many people you’d like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you’re a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don’t need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.p Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it’s easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It’s also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you’re considering.p

I spent four nights in Yosemite National Park in May and this tent held up just fine. The first night I was there it rained the entire night and no water got into the tent, so I was very happy. This tent is the first I have ever purchased and it only took me practicing how to build it twice at home before I could build it in under 10 minutes when I went to Yosemite. As a result, I was quite pleased because I didn’t want to go camping and look like the village idiot. If given the opportunity, I would buy this tent again.

This was my second experience with tents, the first one when me and my wife bought a 2 person tent which was very cheap from Thailand but when we took it to real adventure it didn’t satisfy our needs. We then decided to go for brand new one and we were welling to invest some money on that. We finally after few surches online decided to go for Coleamn tents which was great “but expensive” experience, very large, easy to setup, and light for short backpacking trips.br /I do recommend this tent for you if you are going for short trips and on Mediterranean climate.br /br /(The reviewer was compensated for posting this review. Sundome 3 Tent 7 x 7, 3 Person CustomerReview

This was a birthday gift for my 9 year old grandson. Well, the first one came with a hole in it but Amazon was great and sent me a free shipping label to send it back and shipped out a new one immediately. It came very quickly and in time for my grandson’s birthday. He absolutely loves it. It was easy to set up, they put a blow up mattress in it and it fit perfectly. He had friends over to sleep out in the backyard three nights in a row. They played games (by flashlight)told stories and had a blast. My daughter said it’s great for two adults but three would be a little tight, especially with the mattress but next year my son-in-law will take my grandson to the state park and it will be perfect for the two of them. It has been great fun and cost less than some electronic toy. Also better than those “kid” tents that are OK in the house but blow away outside.

This product is awesome and should meet the needs of all campers that use this product. It sets up easily with one person. There is plenty of head room and you will not bump your head on the dome light that attaches to the ceiling. The Tent accumulates minimal humidity and has more then enough ventilation. I love this tent and enjoy using it every chance I get. Coleman did an awesome job with this tent by manufacturing something that is useful and straight forward. Enjoy.

Coleman Sundome Tent – 7×5′ CustomerReview

I bought this tent as I needed a smaller one for a yearly group camp out with very limited space. I didn’t arrive until 11 PM and was very tired. I managed to get this little tent up for the first time by myself with only a small flashlight in just a few minutes. Just as I was ready to turn in, it started to sprinkle, so I then had to get the rain fly up. Also very easy. It was 2 days later that the rain started in earnest. This wasn’t a deluge, but a steady rain that lasted about 5 hours in the day, and resumed at night for several more hours. I stayed very dry and comfy. I’ve seen a lot of people with cheap tents that are just that, cheap. This one seems pretty well made. The rain fly worked well. I had started out with a tarp underneath to protect the bottom, but had to grab that to cover up the rest of my equipment. I realize the flooring probably won’t last forever, but I will make sure I use a groundcloth in the future. It was just as easy to take down, and the storage bag included is large enough. My only negative comment is that it is very small. If 2 people share it, I hope they are very good friends. I used a Coleman twin air bed in it, and seemed to have about 12 inches to spare for some of my gear. But I’m just used to a larger tent also. It does have a pocket on the wall, which was perfect for storing my glasses and small flashlight.

Coleman Sundome Tent (10-Feet x 10-Feet) Specifications

Roomy enough for the whole family, the Coleman Sundome tent sleeps up to five people at a time in complete comfort. The Sundome is outfitted with Coleman’s exclusive WeatherTec system, a series of technical features intended to protect you from inclement weather and nasty storms. WeatherTec tents are built with a coated polyester fabric combined with anti-wicking thread, webbing, and zippers, all designed to keep you dry when the rain comes down. The tent’s welded waterproof floor and inverted floor seams, meanwhile, dramatically increase the water resistance by hiding the needle holes inside the tent and away from the elements. And in addition to offering fully taped rainfly seams, the included rainfly covers the doors and windows tightly and incorporates easy-to-use Velcro frame attachments. In fact, Coleman is so confident in its WeatherTec system that it exposes its WeatherTec tents to a rain room that simulates nasty downpours, and to a wind machine capable of blowing hurricane force gusts. The results? Even after the tests, Coleman guarantees its WeatherTec tents will keep you dry. p The Sundome’s interior is notably spacious, with a base that measures 10 feet by 10 feet and a center height of 72 inches–plenty of headroom for most people. In addition, the tent is engineered to keep you cool thanks to the adjustable Variflo ventilation and vented Cool-Air port. Best of all for travel-weary campers, the Sundome sets up quickly, with two shock-corded steel poles, continuous pole sleeves, a pin-and-ring design, and InstaClip attachments. The tent even comes with easy-to-follow instructions sewn into the durable carrying bag. Other features include a heavy-duty welcome mat, a single door, separate bags for the poles and stakes, a privacy vent window, an interior gear pocket, and an electrical access port. ptable align=right width=300 cellpadding=10trtdimg src=”http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/stores/sport-goods/B0009PUQG4-1.jpg” border=0 align=topbrbrsmallibThe Sundome tent sleeps up to 5 people comfortably./b/i/small/td/tr/tablebSpecifications/bulliCenter height: 72 inches liFly: Polyester taffeta 75 denier liMesh: 68-denier polyester lIFloor: 1,000-denier floor, 140 g/m2 liFlysheet and inner tent coating: 450mm polyurethane liBase dimensions: 10 by 10 feet liPoles: 11mm fiberglass liCountry of origin: Made in China liWarranty: Limited 1 year /ulpbAbout Coleman/bbr More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a “no light, no pay” clause–a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked–and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark. p In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company’s current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won’t deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.p

Coleman Sundome Tent (10-Feet x 10-Feet) CustomerReview

This was our very first time setting up a tent — we did it with no problem (under pouring rain!) and quite quickly. During our 3-day camping trip it rained most of the time, however we stayed dry inside. The rainfly does protect the mesh windows from the rain. I like having a choice of removing the rainfly and looking at the starts on a clear night! (hopefully it will not be raining nonstop at our next trip). The only problem we have is fitting it back into its original storage bag–cannot do it.
