Coleman Elite Sundome 6 Tent Overviews

From the built-in lighting system to the hinged door and Auto-Roll window design to Coleman’s WeatherTec system guaranteed to keep out wind and rain, the Coleman Elite Sundome 6 Tent is packed with features for comfort and convenience at the campsite. The tent sleeps 6 people comfortably in 2 rooms, with a footprint of 12′x10′ and a center height of 6′. The hinged door swings open and closed; it includes a rigid pole frame support structure that is easy to install and take down. An overlapping door flap helps keep out insects when closed. The integrated lighting system, featuring a replaceable 15-watt spiral fluorescent tube powered by an 8 D-cell battery pack, provides a bright, useful light — enough to read by at night. It can be turned on and off with a push-button remote control from up to 50 feet away, or by using the backlit switches on the light fixture and the battery pack. Two settings provide brightness options, with more than 16 hours of run time on Low and 12-14 hours on High. Coleman’s Comfort System allows control of airflow with vented Cool-Air Port/Cooler Port, privacy vent window, interior gear pocket and electrical access port. Color-coded 11mm fiberglass poles, continuous pole sleeves plus InstaClip attachments and an exclusive pin-and-ring design assure quick and easy setup even for beginners. Coleman’s new Auto-Roll Window lets you instantly roll windows up, partially up to your liking, or all the way down, to suit your privacy or ventilation preference. “Negative-angle” windows allow the window to be partially or fully open during a mild rain: a primary structural pole creates an overhang to protect the window and provide ventilation and viewing during an afternoon shower or gentle nighttime rain.

Coleman Elite Sundome 6 Tent CustomerReview

I am well pleased with the quality of the tent and the ease to assemble. As with all the tent manufacturer’s ratings, this tent might be rated to sleep more than two people, but if you plan to store any gear or use airbeds, two people is the magic number of occupants that can comfortably use the tent.br /The assembly is a piece of cake. We’re in our 50’s and hadn’t assembled one of the newer style tents before purchasing this one. It takes about 10 minutes to assemble, once you’ve done it and see how things go.br /The canvas carry bag is nice, but there isn’t any “extra” room in it. You’ll have a little work folding things tight enough to get back in the bag, but it all does fit nicely once you figure out the best method. Pay attention to how everything is stored and folded when you first unpack the tent.br /Our first time out, we experienced severe storms with heavy rain and winds. Everything held perfectly water-tight. No leaks; no problems. The tent dried quickly in the sun in about 15 minutes. The dimensions of the storage bag allow us to easily carry this tent in our Bushtec motorcycle trailer, along with all the other necessary gear. We are well pleased.

Preparation before first use:br /When I first got the tent, I applied seam sealant to all seams and sprayed all exteriors of the tent and rain fly with Sno-Seal water repellent. Then, I cut up a piece of truck tarp from Wal-Mart and made it 4 inches smaller on each side so water won’t pool under the tent between the ground cover.br /br /Pitching the tent:br /The tent was easy to set up and I can do it for the first time (including putting up the rain fly) well under 10 minutes. Only complain is that I have problem knowing which side (the vestibule side or the window side). It’s harder than you think to figure it out if you’re in the dark and it’s roll up. The fix is easy, I just took a sharpie and labeled at the brims on each side and near the hooks. I also labeled the bottom of the tent so when I unroll it I would immediately know which side is the window and which side is the door. That is very important for setting up a tent. br /br /I have also pitched the tent under constant sea breeze on the a beach and at a RV park and at my backyard in near total darkness. I have no trouble setting it up in any of the above situations. However, a second person would be helpful for pitching and folding it up under high wind.br /br /After that, I set the tent up for the first time on grass at my lawn for one night. There were no rain and it was comfortable. The steel stake provided worked well but it’s heavy and the head bended after I mallet the stacks into the ground (due to my “rocky” lawn). I would recommend getting the MSR groundhog aluminum stakes.br /br /Sleeping in it:br /Then I put it on my wooden deck and started to sleep in it. The tent was tied down to the deck with some nylon cords. I purposefully experience a thunderstorm in it with good deal of wind (10-20mph appr.) and the tent stood tall. There are some splashes of water in the tent but you expect that and it’s also my fault as the rainfly was at too shallow of an angle so it exposed too much of the meshed sides. The rainfly should be no more than 8 inches above the ground (see the user poset picture I have posted).br /br /I slept in it on a cool summer night where the temperature reached around 50F. There are slight amount of condensations on the inside at the lower section of the side that I slept. That was rather inevitable but the water dries up with a couple wipes with my towel.br /br /Creature comforts/ergonomics:br /The mesh tent top organizer is great for keeping loose things together. There are also two extra mesh pockets provides other storage possibilities.br /br /The window and door is quite generous in size and allows good air circulation. Even with the rain fly on, I can take a very comfortable nap inside the tent in the middle of the day near the beach. br /br /I am a small person (5′ 5″) and for me any tent is probably enough space so I can’t comment on the roominess of it for most people. It’s enough for me. It’s 2 person tent but I used all the space for the second person for 2 backpacks and my camera bag.br /br /Other comments:br /It packs into a pretty small package and transport easily for car camping purpose. br /br /The fiberglass poles are light weight and easy to clean.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:pstrongfont color=CC6600Expect the Worst/font/strongbr In general, it’s wise to choose a tent that’s designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you’ll face. For instance, if you’re a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick–especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you’re a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you’ll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.pstrongfont color=CC6600Three- and Four-Season Tents/font/strongbr For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.p For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.pstrongfont color=CC6600Domes and Tunnels/font/strongbr Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.pstrongfont color=CC6600Size Matters/font/strongbr Ask yourself how many people you’d like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you’re a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don’t need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.p Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it’s easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It’s also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you’re considering.p

Coleman Sundome 7-feet by 5-feet 2 Person Tent CustomerReview

I spent four nights in Yosemite National Park in May and this tent held up just fine. The first night I was there it rained the entire night and no water got into the tent, so I was very happy. This tent is the first I have ever purchased and it only took me practicing how to build it twice at home before I could build it in under 10 minutes when I went to Yosemite. As a result, I was quite pleased because I didn’t want to go camping and look like the village idiot. If given the opportunity, I would buy this tent again.

I don’t have too much to say about this tent but what I do can easily be broken down into a few pros and cons.br /br /The Good: It’s small, lightweight, easy to set up, and withstands a bit of rain.br /br /The Bad: It’s small.br /br /And I place it’s small in both good and bad since yes, it is portable and light, but originally having purchased this tent for 2 people, I quickly realized that because of its square shape, it would not be fitting more than 1 adult comfortably. It did end up getting a bit of use as a loaner tent however though the borrower (about 5′7″) ended up having to sleep diagonal to fit. So if you are not willing to spend a lot on a more professional 1 person tent, this tent will do the job. I should also mention the color I suppose. It’s not grey/blackish on the main piece as one would assume based on the picture but rather, a sky blue and a navy blue, while the rainfly is traffic cone orange.br /br /Happy Camping!

This was my second experience with tents, the first one when me and my wife bought a 2 person tent which was very cheap from Thailand but when we took it to real adventure it didn’t satisfy our needs. We then decided to go for brand new one and we were welling to invest some money on that. We finally after few surches online decided to go for Coleamn tents which was great “but expensive” experience, very large, easy to setup, and light for short backpacking trips.br /I do recommend this tent for you if you are going for short trips and on Mediterranean climate.br /br /(The reviewer was compensated for posting this review. Wenzel Pinon Sport 7-by 7-Foot Three-Person Dome Tent Specifications

Nicely lightweight and easy to set up and breakdown, the sporty Wenzel Pinon dome-style tent is a great choice for a weekend car camping outing. It features a generously sized single room that measures 7 by 7 feet–great for storing lots of gear–and a 50-inch maximum height. In addition to the good-sized D-style door (with a mesh window covering half of it), this tent also includes a window on the back for cross-current ventilation. The interior is quite spare, with only a small gear pocket in one corner near the door.p Setting up the tent was easy, for the most part, and we erected the tent (with its two shock-corded fiberglass poles) in under five minutes. The one impediment to an even faster assembly was the heavy-duty nylon corner pockets that secure the poles, which included a polyester-reinforced interior flap that’s not seamed at the top of the entry. Thus, we had a tougher time than we should have trying to make correct purchase with the pocket, continually hitting the space between the nylon pocket and the interior poly pocket.p But we could forgive this slight design flaw for such a nicely light and easily backpacked tent. This tent also includes a fly that offers a good coverage area, including a bit of an extended cover over the door and back window. While we didn’t have rain during our testing, we did use a sprinkler for an extended period, and were pleased to note that the fly ably handled the water run off, guiding it away from the bottom of the tent. To improve this tent’s weather resistance, it’s recommended that you use seam sealer to coat all exposed seams, applying only to the underside of the fly and inside the seams of the tent.p Overall, the Wenzel Pinon is a good choice for car campers and for the occasional hiked excursion. While it won’t stand up to the worst that Mother Nature can throw your way, it should handle a decent amount of rain. And its ample 49 square foot interior will hold two good-sized adults and a good amount of gear. i–Agen G.N. Just received this and set it up, Set-up was easy as could be, didn’t even need the directions. Only gripe I would have is that assembly poles are much thinner than a previous Wenzel that we currently own. None the less, I hope this own lasts as long as the other one (15+ years) On a completely different note: I used a seam sealer with the applicator tip (wow, that was lame) after getting most of it on the floor I decided to use a fuzzy yellow flat trim disposable brush (1 inch wide) Let me tell ya, that worked like a champ and gave a nice thick even seal all around. In addition, I used scotchgard for fabric on the outside to add that extra protection (BTW, go to [...] and get a off coupon) then go to big lots (of all places) and get the stuff for a can!!!! That’s a deal! Happy Trails Y’all!

Coleman Tent Kit Specifications

The Coleman tent kit comes with everything you need to set up and break down your tent. The kit starts with four sturdy 10-inch steel tent stakes, which keep your tent from blowing away in the middle of the night. The solid rubber mallet, meanwhile, makes it easy to pound the stakes into the ground, so you don’t have to search fruitlessly for a nearby rock. When it’s time to pack up, you can turn to the easy-to-use tent stake puller, which keeps your fingers from cramping up. And no one wants to bring the campsite home, which is why the kit includes a handy whisk broom/dust pan combo for cleaning the tent floor. A must-have for frequent campers, the tent comes with a handy mesh storage bag.pbAbout Coleman/bbr The Coleman Company has been creating and innovating products for recreational outdoor use since W.C. Coleman started selling gasoline-powered lanterns in 1900. Inventor of the hugely popular fold-up camp stove, Coleman developed a plastic liner for his galvanized steel coolers in 1957–the birth of the modern cooler–and the company has been improving their utility and design ever since. The array of products that bear the Coleman name now includes just about everything you might need to work or play outdoors, from tents and sleeping bags to boats, backpacks, and furniture.p

Coleman Tent Kit CustomerReview

I bought this kit for my husband after our first camping trip and my husband 1) forgot to bring a mallet and broom and dustpan and 2) the stakes that came with our tent all bent the first time we tried to hammer them in.br /br /It’s nice to get it all in one little sack so we don’t forget anything. I have since decided a large broom and battery operated hand vac suits my taste better than a little broom and dustpan, but those are still handy to have around. br /br /The stakes in this kit are sturdier than the ones that came with our tent (i.e., they don’t bend easily). The mallet works and we have no problem with it. br /br /The stake puller works, but only if the stakes aren’t stuck in the ground. The last time we used it, the stakes wouldn’t come out and we were afraid plastic heads on the stakes would come off with the stake puller. It would be nice if either the stake heads weren’t made of plastic or the stake puller would grip stake body so we could get a grip on the stake and pull.br /br /Other than the problem with removing the stakes, I have no complaints.

Three-Person Camping Dome Tent 7 Feet X 7 Feet One Touch Set Up CustomerReview

I bought this tent because I’m tired of always taking the longest to set up and take down my tent whenever I go camping with other people. Untangling and setting up the poles. Threading the poles through the sleeves. Getting the poles stuck into the “heels” and arcing up the tent without the pole coming loose. Argh. I wanted something faster and simpler.br /br /This tent performs as advertised. From unzipping the bag to having an erected tent took 3-1/2 minutes the first time, and a good chunk of that time was figuring out what was what. It really was that easy. Hammering in the stakes and installing the rainfly will take another few minutes, but having everything ship-shape and secured should only take about five minutes after you do it a few times and learn how everything works.br /br /Easy enough to take down as well, but it kinda collapses into a pouffy lump, as air isn’t easily squeezed out of nylon tents. You’re rolling it up with the poles in the middle, so it was a bit more awkward to stuff back into the bag than a tent where the poles are separate, but it did finally get zipped up.br /br /Four stars because It’s hard to say how durable it’ll be, until I see how it holds up in the woods and rain. It weighs only nine pounds, but is a bit bulky for hardcore backpackers. For only fifty bucks, it’s not much of a gamble. I’d say it sleeps two adults, or one adult and two kids. Don’t think my inflatable air mattress will fit without pushing against the tent at both ends, but my self-inflating camping pad should work just fine.
