I needed a compact backpacking sleeping bag that would not take up too much room in my pack. I also didn’t want to spend a lot of money because I’m cheap like that. I read a lot of the reviews on Amazon and decided that I would take a chance on this bag. For the dollars I paid, I figure I could always sell it if I didn’t like it.br /br /Well, I had my first chance to use it this past weekend and it is great! I’m 6′1″ 220 lbs. and I fit just fine. I was camping in the High Sierras at about 7500′ in elevation near . I used a Thermarest sleeping pad, long underwear, wool socks, and a knit hat. I was very toasty warm (almost too warm) until the early hours of the morning when the temperature dropped to the low 30’s. At that point, my feet started to get a little cold. Not freezing, but cold enough to be annoying. The rest of me was still plenty warm.br /br /I think that this bag being a 30 degree bag is a stretch. You wouldn’t freeze to death, but you wouldn’t be very warm either. I think that a 40 degree rating is more accurate.br /br /Considering that I rarely camp in cold weather, this is a great sleeping bag for general use, and a fantastic bag for the money. I highly recommend this bag for hiking and backpacking in temperatures over 40 degrees. I give it 4 stars for the inaccurate temperature rating.
